Here’s what we think the right answer is: 1. Implement a new policy against pro-self-harm blogs. Here’s draft language we are planning to add to our Content Policy: Active Promotion of Self-Harm. Don’t post content that actively promotes...

Github wants to teach kids how to code →
Here at GitHub, we think it’s important to contribute to our future. Since kids will eventually grow up (so we hear) we think it’d be awesome to teach them how to code. We’re working with CoderDojo to bring their awesome kid-code-teaching classes to the US. Similar to an idea I failed to find funding for in 2011.

Comparing Internet Speeds Across the Nation →
dataanxiety: Idaho has the slowest Internet speeds for residential customers in the country, while Rhode Island and other East Coast states have among the fastest. Differences in download time between the cities with the fastest (Providence, RI) and slowest (Pocatello, ID) connections vary by an order of magnitude i.e. a multiple of ten. More like 12 times, in fact. Oddly, Washington State...

The Good (City) Life: Why New York's Life... →
First, we don’t spend our entire lives in cars. We walk everywhere. With narrow streets, an abundance of stores, and a dearth of parking, the city is practically designed to make us walk. Before we get on the subway, we walk there, and after we arrive at our stop, we climb numerous flights of stairs. We also walk faster than the average American; in a recent study, New Yorkers were ranked...

I am Neil deGrasse Tyson — Ask Me Anything →
david: If you could impress one thing on young people today, what would it be? That adults are not all they’re cracked up to be. And most of them are wrong most of the time. This can be quite revelatory for a kid - often launching them on a personal quest of exploration, rather than of Q&A sessions with their parents. If you could change one thing about how the sciences are taught to...

The tail end of 2005 brought several changes began the end of most student organizations on campus.  The first was the creation of the Game and Simulation Programming major, which attracted droves of gamers who were great at gaming and spent all their free time gaming and not socializing with humans or using OSes that most games didn’t run on.  DeVry basically got invaded by Westwood...
